Saint John’s Prep middle school students are supporting families in need this Christmas by raising over $1,800 for Anna Marie’s Alliance. With the help of , the students took part in a “white elephant” auction to raise the funds. This fun tradition has been a part of the Prep School middle school holiday experience for over 20 years!

Col. Frank Imholte donated his time to teach 7^th and 8^th grade students about auctions and the bidding process. Each student donated a festive, wrapped gift that was used for bidding. After a quick lesson on auction bidding, Col. Imholte lead them a very competitive auction!

The auction items were all mystery items. Each gift was labelled with a clue, but all students could see was a wrapped gift or gift bag! Students opened the gifts to find everything from Christmas candy and holiday décor to silly items like scented soap, plastic bugs, and flip flops.

Middle school teacher Cameron Swanson assisted the auctioneer while middle school teachers Jeff Kirchoff, Ashleigh Severson, and Robert Ellenbecker served as cashiers.

The proceeds are being used to fill the wish lists of a family at Anna Marie’s Alliance. Mr. Swanson took a crew of students shopping with the family members’ wish lists. Gifts on the Anna Marie’s wish list range from practical clothing and toiletries to fun toys, gift cards and electronics.

Anna Marie’s Alliance provides safety for women and children in abusive situations in the nine-county region of Stearns, Benton, Sherburne, Wright, Mille Lacs, Isanti, Kanabec, Chisago and Pine Counties. For more information about Anna Marie’s Alliance go to .

Saint John’s Prep will launch our 167^th school year on August 23, 2023. The day will begin with the annual convocation ceremony in the Saint John’s Abbey Church at 8:30am. The program includes a march of flags, blessings, words of wisdom and inspirational messages. Scheduled speakers will include Saint John’s Abbey Abbot and Saint John’s Prep Chancellor John Klassen, OSB ’67, Principal Dr. Christine Glomski, Head of School Jon McGee and Student Council President Patrick Duffy ’24.

More than 290 students from 15 countries, three states, and 25 different Minnesota communities will be on campus this fall. Applications for 2023-24 are still being accepted, but space may be limited in some class years. Please contact the Saint John’s Prep ������ team for more information.

All students are asked to be on campus by 8:00am on August 23. Classes will begin immediately following convocation at the Abbey Church. Alumni, parents, siblings and grandparents are welcome to attend convocation. There will be an all school photo taken on the steps of the Abbey Church right after convocation.

Our annual back to school picnic for our families is scheduled for August 20 at 5:30pm on the Saint John’s Prep front lawn. The 9th grade and new Upper School student orientation is scheduled for August 21 in the Saint John’s Prep Weber Center. I hope you and your family had an enjoyable Easter holiday. In our Catholic Christian faith, Easter provides us an opportunity to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. It provides people of faith hope for all that is to come. May God bless you and yours this Easter season and all year long. It seems appropriate that I send this message to you during the Easter season as I am filled with excitement and hope for what the future holds for Saint John’s Prep. As we near the 20th anniversary of our Middle School, it continues to thrive. So much so, that we are expanding!

To meet demand, we are adding a second section of 6th grade in the fall of 2018. In doing so, we will build upon and strengthen the curriculum that Mary Anderson has championed by herself for the last eight years. Mary is excited to have a partner in this endeavor and welcomes the chance to grow the 6th grade and the enitre Middle School program. I am confident that this team teaching approach will benefit students as they move between classes and subject matters. Students will have the opportunity to work with two different teachers in their core subject areas.

In opening a second 6th grade section in our Middle School, we have a few remaining spots in the Class of 2025! So, if you know of a family with a student entering 6th grade this fall who would benefit from a Saint John’s Prep education, I encourage you to direct them our way.
